The 18th edition of the Asian Games is about to begin, later today, and today’s doodle by Google is dedicated to it. It celebrates the beginning of the Asian Games 2018, which is also referred to as Asiad. The Asian Games are held every four years, and this time, it will be co-hosted by Jakarta and Palembang, in Indonesia.

The Google doodle shows graphics of several sports that will take place at the 2018 Asian Games. At this edition of the multi-sport competition, there will be over 465 events in 40 sports spread across various disciplines.

At Asian Games 2018, athletes from 45 countries will participate. This year, the Games will see the introduction of non-physical events, i.e. esports, or competitive video games.

Asian Games are the second biggest multi-sport tournament, after the Olympic Games. The 2018 Asian Games will begin on August 18 and will end on September 2.

As for India, over 572 athletes are going to participate at Asian Games. Out of the 40 sports in the fray, the Indian contingent will compete in 36 of them, spanning over 41 events.
