Moscow, July 15: In a visual which caught the attention of politically-active Twitterati, the Russian security sleuths were seen holding an umbrella for President Vladimir Putin, whereas, his counterparts of France and Croatia were getting drenched amid the heavy rains.

Russia-bashing was on full-display, with influential Twitter handles taking a shot at President Putin, accusing him of ill-treating his guests and respected foreign dignitaries.

The contentious visual, which got Kremlin trolled, was captured during the post-match celebrations, when the heads of the three States moved from the stands and entered the field of the Luzhniki Stadium, where the final was played.

Here are the tweets taking a potshot at Russia:

A closer scrutiny of the images going viral raised questions on whether the criticism of Putin was justified. As seen in the image below, the umbrellas were not deliberately kept away from French President Emmanuel Macron and his Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

In the tweet shared below, security personnel are seen attempting to shield Macron and Grabar-Kitarović from the rains but they seemed to have moved a bit ahead.

Political junkies reserve the right to continue debating on the subject. Meanwhile, the sporting world remained divided into two halves, with one being delighted with the emphatic 4-2 win of France over Croatia in the FIFA World Cup 2018 finals, the others being deeply disappointed over the latter missing out on their once-in-a-lifetime chance.
