Hosting a luxurious wedding ceremony has almost become a norm for some people. A lot of people invest in high-end venues, decorations, along with a lavish display of the menu and also return gifts. The presenting of gifts to the newly married couple is also a tradition that has stuck on from years. But a bride from West Bengal's Nadia district set a good example that many others could follow. Bride Soumita Mondal from Tehatta in Nadia married Arpan Hazra on Friday. But the bride had a condition that the guests should donate blood instead of carrying wedding gifts for the couple.

Soumita is an engineer by profession. The father of the bride was busy on the wedding morning arranging all the medical conditions for a smooth ceremony. "My only condition was to arrange a blood donation camp. I told my parents not to give me any gold or ornaments. I want to serve the society, especially now when there is a blood crisis. I wanted to do my bit," she was quoted to a leading daily.

So her wedding venue was not a big ground but a local lodge and the family had ensured setting up a blood donation camp. The same premises was turned into a camp for five hours. The bride's Dalia was the first to donate blood. It was indeed a unique way to bring in the big day.

This is not the first time however, such an initiative has taken place at a wedding. Another bride from Nashik, Maharashtra had asked the guests at her wedding to do an organ donation, while the bride and groom did so too. At this event too several guests had donated blood. It is good to see social causes being well-addressed at such occasions.
