The streets of Park Hill have been officially named as 'The Wu-Tang District' in an annual step towards honouring some of the most popular musical artists from New York. The New York City Council in a meeting held last year voted 48-0 honour three legendary artists with street signs in their home boroughs: Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace), The Wu-Tang Clan and Woody Guthrie. The Notorious B.I.G. was given the Christopher Wallace Way in Brooklyn; The Wu-Tang Clan in Staten Island with the Wu-Tang Clan District, and Woody Guthrie Way was honoured in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.

Local culture advocate LeRoy McCarthy told the Gothamist, "I'm happy that NYC officials are finally giving the city's indigenous 'Hip Hop' music the respect and recognition that it deserves. It took a long time and lots of hard work to advance the Christopher Wallace Way & Wu-Tang Clan District street co-naming, but ya know what, Hip Hop Don't Stop." New York City Council Members pass bills to co-name streets in honour of residents and organizations that have had an impact on our city's cultural, political, and economic life every year. Lawmakers in the city unveiled the names during a ceremony on Saturday. Following which, a newspaper quoted New York City Councilwoman Debbie Rose as saying, "This is a great day where we have an opportunity to honour our own hometown heroes, the young men who put Staten Island on the map internationally." The event was attended by a number of local lawmakers in addition to Wu-Tang Clan members.
