The Indian men's hockey team captain scored twice after Spain had taken the lead to help his side eventually win the bronze medal. This was the second successive time that India won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh, 'sarpanch' after he led the side to a bronze medal at Paris Olympics 2024. Singh scored twice in the match as he scripted a comeback after Spain had taken the lead in this match. As he has done with other medallists, PM Modi rang up the Indian men's hockey team and referred to Singh as 'sarpanch' which means 'village chief'. Modi was alluding to the Indian captain's spectacular form as he scored a total of 11 goals at the Paris Olympics 2024.
