Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza who was contesting the elections this year for Awami League has won Narail 2 constituency. As per reports emerging from Bangladeshi media, the ODI skipper got 274,418 votes as against his nearest opponent who received just 8,006 votes and therefore defeating the opponent by a huge margin. A few days ago, Mashrafe’s wife was also seen campaigning for her husband. Mashrafe was running for office from Narail 2 constituency – which comprises Lohagara and parts of Narail Sadar. Border Security Tightened Ahead of 2018 Bangladesh General Elections.

The election officials announced the results on Sunday night after daylong voting. A few months ago, the cricketer took to Facebook citing the reasons to join politics and said that he wanted to do something for the people of the country and joining politics was an ideal way. The ODI cricketer also said that he always wanted to join politics and did not join in to hurt anyone. Well versed with the challenges ahead, the cricketer said that he is willing to accept them.

“I have received all of your love while playing cricket. Without that love my career would have stopped way back in 2011. This very Mashrafe would not have survived for this long. The love I received in 2011 has helped me to continue for the last seven years. Now I have got the opportunity to do something for the people of this country. I don't know what awaits me after the World Cup. So I valued time because I believe that one needs to do the right thing at the right time,” wrote Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in his Facebook post.
