The recruitment follows a major setback for rising star Ayush Mhatre. The 18-year-old sustained a severe hamstring tear during the recent clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Medical assessments confirmed he requires a recovery period of up to twelve weeks, ending his impressive debut season prematurely.

Mhatre established himself as a vital No. 3 batter for CSK, providing aggressive starts and stability, scoring 201 runs in six IPL 2026 appearances, which include two half-centuries.
