The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday, announced the squads for India A, India B, and India C teams which will be participating in the upcoming Deodhar Trophy. The tournament is scheduled to begin from October 23. A lot of team India probables were given a lifeline, as several out-of-favour names were announced too.

Dinesh Karthik, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane were appointed captains of the respective India A, B, and C teams. Usually, it is the winner of the Vijay Hazare Trophy that participates in the tournament as the third team. However, with ICC World Cup 2019 fast approaching, the BCCI has decided to induce the third team in the Deodhar Trophy.

Dinesh Karthik, who was recently dropped from the ODI squad against West Indies, has been named the captain of the India A team. Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, Krunal Pandya, R Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj, Siddharth Kaul are some of the known faces in the squad who’d be itching to stake their claim for the World Cup 2019 spot.

Shreyas Iyer, who has a few matches under his belt would be looking to impress the selectors too. In his team would be Mayank Agarwal, who recently was selected in the Indian Test team, but didn’t get to play a match. India B team would be banking on their strong bowling unit which comprises of Deepak Chahar, Varun Aaron, Jaydev Undakat and Shahbaz Nadeem, to deliver the goods in the tournament.

For the selectors, it will give them a chance to reconsider their probables to bolster the current Indian team. As for the players, they’d get an opportunity to showcase their mettle and push their cause to play for the Indian team. The tournament is set to begin in a week’s time, and it will be exciting times for the fans to see it alongside India vs West Indies ODI Series 2018!
