East Zone has successfully booked their coveted spot in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final, overcoming a spirited Central Zone by a nervy four-wicket margin in their semi-final encounter at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. East Zone Enter Duleep Trophy 2026 Final

The match, which commenced on August 30, saw both teams finishing with identical first-innings scores, turning the contest into a tense second-innings shootout. Central Zone struggled to recover from 43/3 at Stumps on Day 2, eventually being reduced to 63/5 by impactful bowling from Abhijit K Sarkar and Mohammed Shami. Despite Aman Mokhade's defiant 41 and lower-order contributions from Harsh Dubey and Arshad Khan, Central Zone was bowled out after crossing the 150-run mark. Spearheading East Zone’s attack, Mukesh Kumar was exceptional, adding to his previous day’s wickets to finish with a crucial four-wicket haul, contributing to his match figures of 7 for 100. Shami also bagged three wickets in the second innings.

East Zone's Calculated Chase

Chasing a target of 159, East Zone’s openers, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhimanyu Easwaran, provided a solid foundation with a 61-run stand. Sooryavanshi, in particular, batted in his characteristic swashbuckling style, scoring 40 before his dismissal. However, a familiar pattern emerged as Easwaran followed him back to the pavilion with just four runs added, reminiscent of their first-innings collapse.

Central Zone sensed an opportunity, especially when Harsh Dubey struck twice in two balls to induce panic in the East Zone camp at 124/3. Yet, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan displayed remarkable composure, guiding his team through the challenging period. Kishan remained unbeaten on 39, ensuring no further hiccups as East Zone successfully chased down the target and secured their berth in the final.
