In a shocking revelation, Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) former President Thilanga Sumathipala has accused country’s legendary cricketers Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva of match-fixing. Sumathipala alleged that the duo were the first players from the country to be named for indulging in the match-fixing. “Arjuna and Aravinda were the names mentioned, they were alleged to have taken 15,000 dollars from someone named Gupta,” Sumathipala was quoted as saying by PTI.

Sumathipala, while taking a dig at Ranatunga, further claimed that his administration back then was blamed for not investigating the complaint of alleged match-fixing by Ranatunga and de Silva.

Interestingly, Ranatunga is currently a government minister and he had earlier accused Sumathipala’s family of having links with bookies. The Sri Lanka’s World Cup winning captain had also alleged that under Sumathipala’s “corrupt management” the SLC suffered a lot.

Sumathipala and Ranatunga have been at loggerheads for long now. Recently, Ranatunga’s brother Nishantha had filed a court case to stay the May 30 elections of SLC when Sumathipala seemed ready to be re-elected. Nishantha was one of two rivals of Sumathipala for the position of SLC boss. The Minister of Sports has appointed a Competent Authority to run the SLC while elections are being delayed.
