The inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada, which will take place from June 28 to July 15, will see the suspended Australian duo Steve Smith and David Warner in action. The former Australian captain and vice-captain were handed a 12-month ban following their involvement in the ball-tampering incident during a Test match against South Africa. Meanwhile, the Global T20 Canada will be a six-team tournament with players from international teams participating in it.

The six teams to take part in the Global T20 Canada are Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks, Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers and Cricket West Indies representative team. While the squads of five teams have been announced following the players draft, the Cricket West Indies representative team, featuring players from the Caribbean islands only, will be named later.

The Global T20 Canada will see high profile cricketers like Shahid Afridi, Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Tim Southee, Dwayne Bravo, David Miller, Chris Lynn, Luke Ronchi, Lasith Malinga, Sunil Narine, Thisara Perera and Mohammad Hafeez taking part in the tournament
