As per the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 format, the total of 10 teams have been divided into two groups of five sides each. Each team will face four other teams in the same group once and then the top two teams from each group will head to the semi-finals. Group A consists of Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka while Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland are part of Group B.
The tournament opens with ‘hosts’ Bangladesh taking on Sri Lanka in Sharjah on October 03. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will meet on October 06 in Dubai. Australia come into the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 as defending champions and will play their first game against Sri Lanka on October 05. In the 2023 edition of Women’s T20 World Cup, Australia, India, England and South Africa qualified for the semi-finals. While Australia defeated India in the first semis, South Africa outplayed England in second. Australia eventually won the final by defeating South Africa by 19 runs to clinch their record-extending sixth T20 World Cup title. Apart from Australia, England (2009) and West Indies (2016) are the only other two teams to have won the Women’s T20 World Cup title.
