India defeated South Africa by an innings and 137 runs in the second Test and seal the three-match series 2-0. Earlier in the day, South Africa came out to follow-on after being bundled out for 275 runs in the first innings. The Indian bowling-attack continued their stellar performance and took wickets at regular intervals. Opener Dean Elgar was the highest scorer for the visitors while Temba Bavuma made 39 runs. The victory was delayed by the duo of Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj who tried to put a fightback but only managed to decrease the margin of defeat. In the last session of Day 4, India needed three wickets which they got in a jiffy and registered a thumping victory.

Earlier in the match, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Skipper Virat Kohli scored a splendid double ton as the hosts cruised to 601 runs in the first innings. In reply, South Africa never looked in the battle and were rattled by the Indian bowling line-up. In the two innings, South Africa managed 275 and 189 runs which were 137 short of India’s first innings total. After sealing the series, India will take on South Africa in the third Test at Ranchi. The match will commence on October 19 where India will eye a whitewash while the visitors will play for pride.
