IPS officer G Sampathkumar has filed a petition against the IPL and has urged the BCCI to stall the matches until preventive measures against match-fixing and illegal betting are taken. He approached the Madras High Court and also mentioned that he is not seeking a ban on the IPL matches but wants a credible system to be in place before the start of IPL 11. Ā G Sampathkumar played a vital role in exposing 2013 spot-fixing and betting in IPL matches.

ā€œContrary to the Lodha Committee report, vested interests still continue to be protected in the IPL and the questions of conflict of interest remain unaddressed by the BCCI,ā€ Sampathkumar said. According to him, the BCCI does not have a trustworthy anti-corruption unit in place neither do they have a database of the earnings of the players. He also went on to say that the BCCI also does not have preventive action or measure against a person committing the offence of sporting fraud.

The plea is likely to be heard today by the first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice A Selvam. IPS officer G Sampathkumar was the one who actually claimed that MS Dhoni was aware of a deal with Gurunath and a bookie named Kitty. Sampath Kumar had also told a popular news channel about the reported meetings between Vikram Aggarwal and Meiyappan. Vikram asked Meiyappan to talk to a few CSK players and Meiyappan approached Dhoni and Suresh Raina in a party. With IPL only 4 days away, it would be interesting to see is his plea is accepted.
