Krishna entered the series decider requiring two wickets to reach the 50-wicket mark, having started the tour with 48 wickets in the format. Handed the ball amidst a dominant opening stand by England, the right-arm bowler dismissed the dangerous Jacob Bethell for 91 to claim his 49th career wicket. Bethell was caught by Rohit Sharma at deep square leg off a well-directed short delivery.
He later secured his milestone 50th ODI wicket in the backend of the innings, dismissing England captain Harry Brook for 14. Brook mistimed a yorker straight to Virat Kohli at long-on, bringing an end to a brief but aggressive cameo. Krishna’s role in the series finale was amplified due to sudden changes within the Indian bowling camp. Premier pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out just prior to the toss after experiencing sudden reactive swelling in his left knee, following an impact injury sustained during the second ODI in Cardiff.
With Bumrah sidelined and all-rounder Washington Sundar already out of the tour with a hamstring injury, Krishna was drafted into the starting line-up to lead the attack alongside Arshdeep Singh and debutant Gurnoor Brar. With the three-match series tied at 1-1, India’s batting unit faces a steep historical chase to secure the trophy.
