The infamous Sandpaper Gate continues to haunt memories of the Aussie fans. Yesterday, England played against Australia at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Little did the guests know that they would be at the receiving end as England hammered 481 runs by losing 6 wickets and thus making the highest total in the history of ODIs. It was Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales who made 138 and 147 runs respectively and the latter went on to become the Man of the Match. England registered a thumping victory of 242 runs and broke several other records too.

Australian fans were taken aback by their team’s performance. Australia’s ex-cricketer Shane Warne too was stunned by his team’s performance. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Just woke up and saw the score in England. What the hell happened over there & what is going on boys ? Gulp.....”

Netizens were quick enough to remind him of the sandpaper gate that happened earlier this March. The Internet users took a jibe at the ex-cricketing legend and said that the team lost as they ran out of sandpaper. Check out a few tweets below.

“This match was without Sandpaper 🤣😜😂 #ENGvAUS,” read a tweet.

Another netizen wrote, “England tampering with the ball mate. With 3lb willow bats.”

“They're really hot on possession of sandpaper over here 😁😁😁,” wrote a netizen.

“Ran out of sandpaper 😂😂😂,” read a tweet.

“No Vaseline required, just spat on the end of it and went in dry!  #sorearsetomorrow!,”read a post.

“To guide them how to temper the ball with sand paper...,” read a tweet.

After the losing the match, Australian captain Tim Paine said, “That was some of the best striking I've seen. Hats off to the English boys, they are red hot. On a positive side we are getting some games into the young guys. That was the hardest day I've had in 16-17 years. It was tough, no matter where we put the field they hit the gaps. They are the yardstick of 50-over cricket. Twelve months is a hell of a long time in cricket so things can turn for you quickly. We have six guys who potentially will come back in some will have depth and experience."
