Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal has already reached the pre-quarters of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after they drew the game with Iran by 1-1. Cristiano Ronaldo who missed a penalty found himself in the middle of a controversy as the Portugal captain tried getting in front of Morteza Pouraliganji and flailed his arm into the face of the Iranian. After watching the footage repeatedly, the referee only gave him a yellow card, which didn’t go down well with the fans.

The team sealed their berth in the pre-quarters and obviously the players were elated about the same. Post this, Ronaldo shared a picture of himself with the teammates on the plane. He captioned the snap, “Objectivo cumprido. Unidos e focados para os oitavos de final. Vamos Portugal (Translation in English: Objective fulfilled. United and focused for the final round. Let's Portugal).”

Ricardo Quaresma who scored a goal for Portugal said that the team had to recover for the next match. “I think we did very well, we have achieved our goal and now we have to recover and think about the next match. We know the difficulties we'll face, they're a big team with very good players,” he said. He also mentioned that the team is well-versed with the difficulties they will face against Uruguay. “We know the difficulties we’re going to have against Uruguay. They are a big team with very big players, but the most important thing now is for us to recover and to get ready for Uruguay.”
