The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia concluded with France walking away with glory by beating Croatia by 4-2 at the Luzhniki Stadium. Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic scored an own goal which gave the lead to the opponent.  Antonie Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe were the ones to score a goal for France. On the other, the hand, Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic scored for Croatia, but that just didn’t seem enough their team. Just after the finals of the World Cup, England’s Harry Kane, Croatia’s Luka Modric, France’s Kylian Mbappe, Thibaut Courtois and team Spain walked away with accolades.

England might not have qualified for the finals, but Harry Kane led the list of leading goals scorers in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Kane scored six goals in the tournament and was on the top of the game in the group stage. Scoring five goals against Panama and Tunisia, Kane made one against Colombia.

Luka Modric’s team Croatia was labelled as the underdog. In fact, when the team played against England during the semi-finals, his team was written off as the football pundits thought that Croatia stood no chance against England. Throughout the tournament, he led Croatia from the front and thus earned the Golden Ball. (Check out the prize money bagged by both teams).

Kylian Mbappe went on to become the youngest player to score a goal in the finals of the World Cup against Croatia by 4-2. The 19-year-old scored four goals in the tournament and was named as the FIFA Young Player Award. With 27 saves in the FIFA World Cup, Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois was awarded the Golden Glove. His save rate in the mega-event was 81.8 per cent. Sergio Ramos' Spain might have crashed out of the tournament in the group stage itself, but they were awarded the Fair Play Award.
