According to media reports, an unnamed Premier League footballer has been reportedly accused of raping a 15-year-old girl. The incident goes back to a French campsite in July 2012, when the accused player was 17 years old.

The Daily Mirror's Anastasia Tsougka and Andrew Gilpin said that it is only now that the French media has started sharing information regarding the case.

The report further mentions that the player, along with his cousin, appeared in the court in July this year. The cousin, older than the player, is also accused of raping the girl. However, the player's lawyer told news agency AFP that the player (his client) has categorically denied the rape charges and the girl's claims.

The trial will likely take place in Nimes, France. The player's identity has been withheld but reports claimed that the player is a 23-year-old playing in the current Premier League.

The victim was found in a distressed condition and said that she had been sexually assaulted by two men.

The player, who had first denied any sexual wrongdoing, later said that he had consensual sex with the girl and that it was not rape as the victim has alleged. The player's cousin also said that they had consensual sex with the girl and that they were not aware that the girl was a minor.
