This incident marks the second baggage-related setback for the pugilists during their recent travels. Earlier this month, similar issues arose when the team flew from Doha to Belfast for their training camp, raising concerns about travel arrangements for the national squad.

Team officials attributed the latest problem to the small size of the aircraft operating the short route from Belfast to Glasgow, which reportedly could not accommodate all the luggage. With the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2026, and the boxing competition kicking off on Friday, July 24, 2026, the absence of ceremonial attire and training gear is a significant hindrance to the team's final preparations.

Preparations and Further Challenges

The Indian boxing team, comprising seven men and seven women, had undergone intensive training, including a camp in Belfast, Ireland, which they commenced on July 10, 2026, before heading to Glasgow on July 21. The Sports Ministry has invested over ₹10 crore in the boxing team's preparations, aiming for a strong medal haul. Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) is a key athlete expected to spearhead India's medal charge.

Adding to the contingent's woes, reports also indicate that the women's coach has not been provided accommodation in the same hotel as the boxers, creating additional logistical challenges for the team management.
