India wrestler Sushil Kumar, on Sunday, was officially eliminated from Asian Games 2018. The 18th Asian Games are underway in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia. Sushil suffered a major blow as he lost to Bahrain's Adam Batirov in the opening round. However, there were still some hopes of him fighting for the bronze medal via repechage. The two-time Olympic medallist slumped to a shocking 3-5 defeat at the hands of Batirov in the 75 kg freestyle category, thus ruling himself out of the race for the gold medal. Despite maintaining the initial lead of two points, the Indian wrestler could not hold his nerves and gave away two consecutive points to his opponent which led to his eventual defeat.

Meanwhile, another Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia is through to semis after a comprehensive 12-2 win in 65 kg category against Tajikistan’s Fayziev Abdulqosim. Another win in the competition guarantees him a medal. In men’s freestyle 86 kg, Pawan Kumar lost to world champion Hassan Yazdanicharati via technical superiority. Though the Indian has a chance to win bronze via repechage if Hassan reaches the final.
