California, August 31: Twitter released a formal statement making it clear that co-founder Jack Dorsey's account was hacked and that the social networking company is "investigating what happened." Reports say that a group of hackers called Chuckling Squad hacked Jack Dorsey's account. The chief executive and founder of the micro-blogging site's personal account was hacked for close to 20 minutes, says report. Several offensive and racist remarks were posted from the Twitter handle of Dorsey, which brought to light that his account had been hacked. "The phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider," Twitter said in a statement. "This allowed an unauthorised person to compose and send tweets via text message from the phone number. That issue is now resolved."

"The account is now secure, and there is no indication that Twitter's systems have been compromised," Twitter added.

The messages posted while the account was hacked had "n-word" and anti-Semitic references and also mentioned the Holocaust. They were posted directly by the @jack account, the official account of the Twitter co-founder. One of the posts claimed that Twitter's headquarters was under a bomb threat.
