OpenAI GPT-5.6-Cyber Launched and Daybreak Initiative for Defensive Cybersecurity Expanded
OpenAI has expanded its Daybreak cybersecurity initiative with two access tiers and the new GPT-5.6-Cyber model. Daybreak Blue supports general defensive tasks while Daybreak Red enables advanced authorised research. The model has already helped uncover vulnerabilities in software such as Chrome’s V8 engine. Access is restricted to approved defenders.
OpenAI has expanded its cybersecurity initiative Daybreak and introduced GPT-5.6-Cyber, a specialised model for advanced authorised defensive work. The move aims to equip trusted defenders with frontier intelligence as the threat landscape evolves and potential offensive AI capabilities grow.
OpenAI Daybreak Blue and Red Access Tiers
Daybreak now offers two tiers. Daybreak Blue provides access to frontier models including GPT-5.6 Sol, with safeguards suited to broad defensive tasks such as vulnerability discovery, secure code review, malware analysis, incident response and patch validation. It is positioned as the recommended starting point for most defenders. OpenAI Acquires Presentation Startup NextSlide for ChatGPT.

Daybreak Red grants access to purpose trained cybersecurity models, including the new GPT-5.6-Cyber, for authorised vulnerability research, exploit validation and security testing. This tier targets experienced defenders handling complex challenges.
OpenAI GPT-5.6-Cyber Capabilities
OpenAI has used GPT-5.6-Cyber in real world research that identified previously unknown vulnerabilities in open source software, including Chrome’s V8 engine. Access remains limited to approved defenders with additional controls and monitoring for higher risk work.
