This news first broke, earlier this year, when there were reports that Paytm was planning its entry in the video-on-demand platform to compete with big players in the category like Amazon Prime, Netflix and others. The hiring process for these new features started a few months back.

In June, the company introduced new features such as in-app content across categories such as Live TV, News, Cricket, Entertainment Videos, and Games on the go, for its Paytm inbox. These services were free of cost for the users. For this, Paytm had already partnered with OTT content provider YuppTV along with Hungama, UC News among others for providing content through its Paytm Inbox service. Paytm is also planning to target the section of first-time smartphone users, which comprises of 50-60 percent.
