Uber is laying off 93 employees in Washington state, impacting personnel assigned to its Seattle office as well as remote workers across the state. The reduction is part of a sweeping corporate restructuring that marks the company’s largest wave of workforce cuts since 2020.

Scope of the Washington Cuts

According to state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings, the local cuts affect a broad cross-section of technical and management positions. Impacted job titles include software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and senior leadership roles within Uber's Seattle engineering hub. Affected employees have been notified that their pay and benefits will continue through November 2. Uber India Layoffs: 200 to 250 Jobs Cut Amid Global Restructuring Plan.

In its notice to the Employment Security Department, Uber said affected employees are being provided 60 days’ advance notice of their termination date, and the anticipated job losses are expected to be permanent. It also said that the employees will continue to receive their full pay and benefits during the notice period. "The anticipated end date of employment for each affected employee is November 2, 2026," Uber said. The company further added, "The anticipated job losses are not a result of, nor will they result in, the relocation or contracting out of the Company’s operations of the affected employees’ positions."

Global Restructuring and Remote Work Rollback

The Washington layoffs form a small part of a broader, global downsizing effort that eliminates approximately 3,300 corporate jobs, or roughly 10 per cent of Uber’s worldwide workforce. In an internal memo to staff, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the restructuring aims to strip away middle-management bureaucracy and flatten reporting structures. Uber Layoffs: 3,300 Jobs Cut To Boost Ride-Sharing and Robotaxi Business, Says Report.

Alongside the headcount reductions, Uber is shifting its operational real estate and location strategy. The company is clamping down significantly on remote employment, capping fully remote positions at less than 1 per cent of its total workforce. Most surviving corporate employees are being directed to relocate near core office hubs, primarily San Francisco and New York, as Uber moves away from decentralised team structures.
