US President Donald Trump has pledged a USD 5,000 (approximately INR 4,75,000) "Trump dividend" payment to every adult American citizen if the Republican Party, also known as the Grand Old Party (GOP), retains control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections. The President announced the proposal during his keynote address at the special midterm Republican National Committee convention in Dallas, Texas.

Positioning the payout as a direct result of ongoing national economic strength, Trump asserted that the funds would be contingent on a Republican victory in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate. The President specified that the distributed money would be required to be spent within the United States. However, the proposal did not outline the specific legislative mechanism or funding source for the initiative, which carries a theoretical total cost exceeding USD 1 trillion.

Midterm Campaign Strategy and Ballot Appeal

With the midterms carrying significant political challenges for the sitting administration, Trump sought to place himself at the center of the Republican campaign to retain congressional majorities. Although the President is not personally running for office in November, he urged voters to approach the ballot box as if he were on the ticket. "When I'm on the ballot, Republicans always do very well. We won the presidency three times," Trump said.

"I'm asking you to pretend that I'm on the ballot… just one more time. Because if we lose, you're going to lose your border, you're going to lose your tax cuts, you're going to lose your safety and security..." he added. Trump said.
