A former high school physical education teacher and track coach from Francis Creek was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison on Tuesday, June 16, for producing child pornography after recording a s*xual assault against a student. Investigation Initiated by Student Report
Schroeder, previously employed by the Mishicot School District, s*xually assaulted a minor student over an approximate two-year period, beginning when the victim was in the eighth grade, according to federal prosecutors. The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office arrested Schroeder on April 16, 2025. According to court records and the underlying criminal complaint, the physical abuse of the first victim began on August 1, 2023, when she was 14 years old. During the investigation, Schroeder "admitted he was having s*xual intercourse with VICTIM 1 since 2023, continuously through 2025, and most recently at the end of March 2025," the complaint states. The court documents reveal that "Schroeder admitted having s*xual intercourse with VICTIM 1 over 50 separate times with VICTIM 1 from 2023-2025." Furthermore, "Schroeder admitted to having s*xual intercourse with VICTIM 1 inside of Mishicot High School over 10 times from 2023-2025."
Dual Judicial Framework and Lifetime Supervision
United States District Judge Byron B. Conway emphasised the severity of the case during the sentencing hearing, stating that the crime was “so much more than the production of child pornography.” Condemning Schroeder’s behaviour as “deviant” and describing him as a “mentor who became a predator,” Judge Conway ruled that the lengthy prison sentence was appropriate considering that his job as a teacher and a track coach gave him “extended access to the victims." Parallel to the federal case, Schroeder was convicted in state court this past May on one count of repeated s*xual assault of the same child.
