Japan Earthquake: Tremors Measuring 5.6 on Richter Scale Hits Hokkaido

Tokyo, October 26: Earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit Japan's Hokkaido on Friday morning. There has been on report on loss of life or property and casualties. Further information is awaited.

On October 23, an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Japan's Okinawa prefecture on Tuesday but no tsunami warning was issued, the weather agency said. Japan Earthquake: 6.1 Magnitude Quake Jolts Okinawa.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor's epicentre was located at a latitude of 24.0 degrees north and a longitude of 122.6 degrees east, and at depth of 30 km.

On September 10, the death toll from a powerful earthquake that triggered massive landslides in northern Japan rose to 44 on Monday. On September 6, an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale, followed by a number of aftershocks, rocked Japan's Hokkaido prefecture, leaving multiple houses buried by landslides.
