Pune, Dec 10 (PTI) Some social organisations in Pune in Maharashtra on Tuesday appealed to the state government to move Supreme Court against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which was passed in Lok Sabha on Monday late night.

These organisations have sent a joint letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray through Pune district collector.

"The bill is unconstitutional. The Centre can't make such important changes in the legislation on its own. It is in violation of the Constitutional norms. We appeal to the state government to file a petition in the supreme court for scrapping the bill," reads the letter.

The CAB, which was cleared by the Lok Sabha, seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan facing religious persecution in those countries.
