Roorkee double murder: A 29-year-old man was arrested after allegedly shooting dead his two sisters and injuring his brother-in-law in separate firing incidents in Haridwar district. Police identified the accused as Vivek Kumar alias Vicky and said character suspicion and an ongoing property dispute allegedly triggered the shootings. A country-made pistol was recovered.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, August 25, for allegedly shooting dead his two sisters and injuring his brother-in-law in two separate firing incidents in the Roorkee area of Haridwar district, police said. The accused, identified as Vivek Kumar alias Vicky, allegedly carried out the shootings at two locations before being arrested by police.
Police said Vivek, a resident of Chudiyala village under Bhagwanpur police station limits, first allegedly shot his elder sister Sangeeta in Preet Vihar, Hindustan Times reported. He then travelled to Subhash Nagar, around 1.5 km away, where his younger sister Pushpa lived, and allegedly shot her dead. Two Sisters Shot Dead At Separate Locations
According to police, Vivek first targeted Sangeeta in Preet Vihar. He then went to Subhash Nagar, where Pushpa was living. Pushpa’s husband, Sandeep, allegedly tried to intervene after Vivek arrived. Police said Vivek then fired at his brother-in-law, leaving him injured. Sandeep was initially taken to a local hospital and was later referred to AIIMS Rishikesh for further treatment.
Police said they recovered a .315-bore country-made pistol and six empty cartridges from Vivek. According to the police, the accused allegedly procured the weapon from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. A further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
A first information report (FIR) was registered at Gangnahar police station under sections 103(1) and 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of Sangeeta’s son, Arjun Singh.
“We received information that a brother shot dead his two sisters and also fired at his brother-in-law. Police reached the spot soon after receiving the information and the injured man was sent to hospital for treatment. The accused was arrested on Tuesday evening and produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody,” senior superintendent of police (SSP) Navneet Singh Bhullar said.

Character Suspicion, Property Dispute Under Probe
According to Bhullar, the shootings were allegedly triggered by Vivek’s suspicion about his sisters’ character as well as an ongoing property dispute between them.
“Vivek suspected his sisters’ character and believed that their actions led to the family being ostracised by society and brought disrepute to the family,” the SSP said. Police are investigating the alleged motive and the nature of the property dispute between the siblings.
Police said Vivek used to run a coaching centre. He had previously been arrested in connection with a paper leak case registered at Kankhal police station and was sent to jail in that case, police said. The latest case remains under investigation, with police examining the evidence recovered from the accused and the circumstances that preceded the two shootings.
