Varanasi, May 29 (PTI) A 27-year-old research scholar of the Banaras Hindu University allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her rented accommodation here today, police said.

The deceased identified as Khyati Singh, a native of Betul in Madhya Pradesh. She was a research scholar at the BHU's Institute of Sustainable and Environment Development.

Khyati tried to hang herself early this morning. Her landlord saw her and immediately rushed her to the BHU trauma centre where she breathed her last, the police said.

Her family was informed and the body sent for post-mortem, they said, adding further investigation was on.
