New York, Apr 24 (AFP) Wall Street stocks fell sharply after midday today, amid anxiety over rising interest rates and as some prominent blue-chip companies tumbled after earnings reports.

About 1745 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 2.1 per cent at 23,946.81.

The broad-based S&P 500 fell 1.5 per cent to 2,631.17, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index slid 1.7 per cent to 7,007.50. (AFP) NSA
