Washington [US], May 17 (ANI): Oscar-winning filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan is returning to the director's chair with 'Tomorrow Is a Drag', a new New York-set drama featuring a high-profile ensemble led by Aubrey Plaza, Adam Driver, Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Broderick.
The project marks Lonergan's first directorial effort since the acclaimed 2016 film 'Manchester by the Sea', which earned him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and won Casey Affleck the Oscar for Best Actor.
The film also secured Lonergan a nomination for Best Director.
According to Variety, 'Tomorrow Is a Drag' is already generating significant attention at the Cannes market this year. International sales are being handled by MK2 Films, while North American representation is with WME.
While plot details remain under wraps, the film's title is said to reflect Lonergan's signature mix of humour and emotional character-driven storytelling, a style seen in earlier works including Margaret and You Can Count on Me, as per Variety.
Plaza is known for projects including the TV show 'Parks and Recreation' and films such as 'Ingrid Goes West', along with her recent appearance in 'The White Lotus'.
Driver's credits include the 'Star Wars' franchise and 'Marriage Story', while Kirby is recognised for the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise, 'Pieces of a Woman' and the series 'The Crown'.
Producer Sara Murphy, who won an Oscar for 'One Battle After Another' directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, is producing the project under her Fat City banner. Production on the film is scheduled to begin this fall in New York, as per Variety.
The project also marks a reunion for several collaborators. Driver previously worked with Lonergan on the Off-Broadway play 'Hold On to Me Darling', while Broderick reunites with the filmmaker after collaborating on 'Margaret', 'You Can Count on Me' and the play 'The Starry Messenger.' (ANI)
