India News | Assam: IMD Forecasts Very Heavy Rainfall over State for Next 3-4 Days

Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 30 (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places across Assam and neighbouring states from July 30 to August 1, prompting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to urge people to remain vigilant.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, including East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley, which may affect the adjoining Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.

An orange alert has been issued for Tinsukia district. Orange alerts have also been issued for Mon, Mokokchung and Wokha districts of Nagaland, which may affect the neighbouring Assam districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat.
Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall of 6-11 cm per day are likely at most places in East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley, while very heavy rainfall of 12-20 cm per day is likely at isolated places over Papumpare district, which may affect adjoining districts of Assam.
The prevailing weather conditions may aggravate waterlogging, flooding, flash floods, slow vehicular movement and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable areas.
The district authorities and the ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation and emergency response systems have been kept on alert.
In view of the forecast, the ASDMA has requested residents of the concerned districts to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant. It has advised daily commuters and long-distance travellers to plan their travel accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents living in low-lying and hillside areas have also been advised to remain alert for signs of flooding or landslides.
