Three people were taken to a hospital after a pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer at an intersection in northeast Iowa, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. The crash happened at 1:13 p.m. Monday, July 27, at the intersection of Highway 3 and W Avenue, west of Oelwein. Dashcam footage released by the sheriff's office shows the pickup entering the intersection before striking the semi.
Authorities said the driver of a Dodge Ram towing a trailer was travelling on W Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign before entering Highway 3, where the semi truck had the right of way. Investigators said the collision also involved a third vehicle that was not visible in the released dashcam footage. Dashcam Shows Violent Collision in Iowa
The video, recorded by a witness's truck-mounted dashcam, captures the moment the Dodge pickup enters the intersection and crashes into the tractor-trailer.
According to investigators, the impact also struck a sedan that was waiting at a stop sign in the southbound lane of W Avenue. Deputies responding to the scene found a semi with a trailer, the Dodge Ram with a trailer, and a sedan in the ditch. Three Taken to Hospital
The driver of the semi truck, along with the driver of the Dodge pickup and a passenger in the pickup, were transported to a nearby hospital in Sumner for treatment. No word on their condition.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office said, "All vehicles involved are a total loss," in a statement. Authorities have not formally announced any charges or citations against the Dodge driver. The crash remains under investigation.
