India News | Himachal Monsoon Session to Begin on Aug 21, 10 Sittings Scheduled Till Sept 3

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 1 (ANI): The Monsoon Session of the 14th Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly will commence on August 21 and continue till September 3, with a total of 10 sittings, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania announced on Saturday.

Pathania said the Assembly Secretariat has issued the notification for the session after receiving the approval of Governor Kavinder Gupta.

He said the House will also meet on Saturday, August 22. However, there will be no sittings on August 28, 29 and 30. According to the Speaker, the House will not meet on August 28 on account of Raksha Bandhan, while August 29 has been kept without a sitting as it falls on a Saturday.

Pathania further said that August 27 has been earmarked for Private Members' Business during the session.

With the issuance of the session notification, members of the Legislative Assembly can now submit notices relating to their respective constituencies to the Assembly Secretariat through both offline and online modes, he added.

Earlier in the day, the Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jairam Thakur accused the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government of pursuing a "politics of vendetta" by allegedly misusing the police and vigilance machinery to target BJP leaders and workers across Himachal Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Thakur alleged that the state government was attempting to silence the opposition by registering "false and fabricated" criminal cases against BJP leaders, former legislators and their family members.

"The government believes it cannot politically counter the opposition, so it has adopted a new strategy of intimidation. Nearly a dozen present and former BJP legislators have either been booked, or their family members have been targeted. Cases are being created without any factual basis merely to tarnish the image of BJP leaders," he alleged. (ANI)
