The Union Cabinet approved the Rs 84,084 crore Samudra Manthan National Offshore Exploration Scheme to scale up domestic production across deepwater and ultra-deepwater sedimentary basins. The four-year roadmap focuses on large-scale seismic data acquisition, exploratory drilling, and the creation of common offshore infrastructure.
By opening up vast offshore sectors that were previously restricted, the program seeks to de-risk investments and encourage state-run and private energy players. Industry experts note that comprehensive seabed mapping and advanced technological deployments will help convert complex geological potential into viable commercial discoveries.

Puri expressed strong confidence that the comprehensive initiative will successfully drive India toward energy self-reliance, or 'aatmanirbhar' status.
