Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], July 8 (ANI): A police constable posted on duty allegedly died after shooting himself inside a police van stationed at Jagat Circle in Kalaburagi, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Shivakumar, was a constable serving in the City Armed Reserve unit.

Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD told ANI, "The police constable Shivakumar, who was working in City Armed Reserve, has shot himself at a police van which was deployed at Jagat Circle."

Based on preliminary information, the cop said, "It looks like he has decided to end his life for personal reasons."

A forensic team was dispatched to the scene. "We are present at the scene with the forensic team," Sharanappa SD said.

He indicated that a formal probe will follow when the family comes forward with a complaint and more information.

"Whatever the complaint the family will give, we will take up the case, and we will investigate it," the Commissioner added.
