New Delhi [India], August 26 (ANI): Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday met Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju at his official residence in the national capital and discussed issues related to the development and welfare of the state, with a focus on minority communities.

During the meeting, the Manipur Chief Minister sought support from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs for various welfare and development programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of minority communities in the state.

Khemchand Singh highlighted the need for continued assistance from the Centre in implementing projects focused on education, empowerment and overall development of minority sections in Manipur.

The discussions also covered matters related to the upcoming Manipur Assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held early next year. Both leaders exchanged views on the political and developmental priorities of the state ahead of the polls.

Rijiju assured the Chief Minister that the Ministry of Minority Affairs would extend all possible support to Manipur and work towards strengthening development initiatives in the state.

The meeting assumes significance as the state government continues to focus on restoring stability and accelerating development efforts in Manipur.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh had earlier met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his official residence in New Delhi and discussed a wide range of issues concerning the state.

Taking to X, Khemchand Singh said that the Union Home Minister assured him that the Central Government would fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the people of Manipur.

The Chief Minister also invited Amit Shah to visit the state, following which the Home Minister agreed to visit Manipur in the first week of October.

"We discussed a wide range of issues concerning Manipur. The Hon'ble Home Minister assured me that the Central Government will fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the people of the State. I invited Shri Amit Shah ji to visit the State, and he has agreed to visit Manipur in the first week of October to lay the foundation stone for the new Senapati Medical College and to review other developmental projects in the State. Shri Amit Shah Ji gave a patient hearing to all the issues relating to the State and lauded our Government for successfully resuming the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service and ensuring free movement along National Highway-2", Manipur CM said.

The meeting comes as the Centre and the Manipur government continue discussions on development initiatives and issues concerning the state. (ANI)
