New Delhi [India], September 9 (ANI): Shanti Devi, a National Award-winning exponent of Madhubani painting, is showcasing India's successful moon landing mission — 'Chandrayaan-3' — in the form of a Madhubani artwork at the G20 Art and Craft Exhibition.

The exhibition is being visited by leaders and delegates, who are attending the ongoing 18th G20 Leaders' Summit in the national capital.

Madhubani, a traditional Indian art form, involves painting on a canvas with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib pen and matchsticks and using local natural dyes and pigments.

While cow dung is used to treat the canvas, the unique artwork is characterized by its eye-catching geometrical pattern.

The art form registered with Geographical Indication (GI), Madhubani has five distinct styles — Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik, Godna and Kohbar.

Shanti Devi, who hails from the Mithila region of Bihar, said she regards her mother to be her first 'guru' (mentor) when it came to learning this unique art form.

She recalled how her mother made exquisite Madhubani paints and put them up on the wall of their house.

She added that her father-in-law was also a Madhubani art exponent.

She said she was also inspired by her husband, also a recipient of the National award, when it came to taking up Mithila Godna painting.

The Madhubani art exponent said she has trained around 1,000 new artists in enhancing their skills in this art form, adding that she also helped many artistes shine at both the national and international levels.

Shanti Devi is also a recipient of the Chetna Samiti Award and the Utkrisht Shilpi Puraskar. (ANI)
