India News | NEET Row: AAP MP Sanjay Singh Moves Suspension of Business Notice in Rajya Sabha; Highlights Suicide of 22 Aspirants

New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has given a Suspension of Business Notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the NEET-UG question paper leak, the systemic failure of the public examination system, police action against peaceful protesters, and the deteriorating health of activist Sonam Wangchuk.

In his notice, the AAP leader highlighted that the frequent paper leaks have "shaken the public's faith in the impartiality and reliability of India's examination system."

He also pointed out the tragic toll on students, noting that at least 22 aspirants committed suicide in the 46-day period following the cancellation of the original exam.

"I wish to draw your attention to a highly sensitive matter of public importance. This matter relates to the large-scale paper leak and irregularities in the NEET-UG exam conducted by the NTA on May 3, 2026, leading to its cancellation and the subsequent compulsion to organise a nationwide re-examination. This is the fourth NEET paper leak in the last nine years, highlighting the persistent weaknesses in this prestigious medical entrance exam of the country and raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the measures taken to protect its sanctity. Such repeated violations have shaken the public's faith in the impartiality, reliability, and transparency of India's examination system," reads the letter.

In the letter, the AAP leader noted a significant decline in the number of candidates appearing for the re-examination compared to the original test.

"Due to the cancellation of the exam, students and their families are facing unprecedented mental and practical hardships. While 22,05,035 candidates appeared in the original exam, only 19,99,895 appeared for the re-examination; meaning more than 2.05 lakh candidates dropped out. This is the highest absenteeism in the history of NEET-UG. This extraordinary absenteeism reflects a severe decline in public confidence in the authenticity of the examination process," he stated in the letter.

Sanjay Singh has highlighted the grave human cost of the NEET-UG examination crisis, pointing to a tragic series of student suicides following the cancellation of the original test.

"Most distressing is the fact that in the 46-day period between the cancellation of the original exam and the re-exam, at least 22 NEET aspirants committed suicide in despair. This tragic situation underscores the horrific nature of the repeated failures in India's most important competitive exams," the letter added.

Expressing outrage over the "undemocratic" crackdown, Sanjay Singh also stated in his letter that the forceful removal of Sonam Wangchuk from his 20-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar is a blatant attempt to silence the demand for transparency in the examination system.

Singh condemned the Delhi Police for using tear gas and lathi-charge against lakhs of students and parents marching for NEET accountability, calling the imposition of Section 163 a brutal suppression of constitutional freedoms.

He further alleged that the administration suppresses the media and disrupts communications to hide the scale of the police action while Wangchuk's deteriorating health in the hospital remains a matter of grave national concern. (ANI)
