Amritsar (Punjab) [India], July 18 (AN): In a breakthrough against cross-border smuggling networks, the Amritsar City Police busted an international drug and arms syndicate with the arrest of four key accused, recovering over 5.5 kilograms of heroin and two highly sophisticated pistols near the international border.
The operation, which was carried out based on precise intelligence inputs, intercepted a ring responsible for receiving and distributing contraband dropped across the border.

Speaking to ANI, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that the arrested individuals used their strategic residential proximity to the international border to coordinate illicit logistics.
"We have arrested 4 accused and recovered over 5.5 kg of heroin and 2 highly sophisticated pistols - 9mm Glock and Star-made .304 pistol. The accused are residents of two villages in the border area in Amritsar Rural. Their villages are right near the international border. They used to facilitate drops at predestined locations," CP Bhullar said.

The top cop further revealed that the operation was completely driven by intelligence networks and identified the arrested individuals as seasoned offenders.
"This was an Intelligence-based operation. We arrested Akash Sandhu, Sunil Saroj, Harvinder alias Chamkaur and Vansh...All of them are of criminal background," the Police Commissioner added.
Police officials indicated that further investigations are underway to trace the broader forward and backward linkages of the network, including the identification of their Pakistani handlers and the local operational conduits receiving the consignments. (ANI)
