New Delhi [India], October 28 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh BJP chief and Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary on Wednesday criticised the Congress over its remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, saying Rahul Gandhi should take good advice.

In an interview with ANI, Chaudhary criticised the way Rahul Gandhi speaks about the country and the international community.

“The way they are leading the communist leaders, I feel that the Youth Congress will sit at home. And the way Rahul Gandhi talks about the country, talks about the international community... I feel they should think about this and appoint people to offer them good advice. The way they talk about PM Modi and Mohan Bhagwat, they are only striking an axe on one's own foot (apne pair par kulhadi marne ka kaam kar raha hai)," Chaudhary said.

Recently, Gandhi accused PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of allegedly hijacking the electoral process through “vote chori”, warning that those responsible would be held accountable.

Speaking at the protest site after Delhi Police stopped an INDIA bloc march towards the Election Commission, Gandhi said, “What has been done to the country is treason. Be it the Prime Minister, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat or Gyanesh Kumar, none of them will be spared."

Further, Chaudhary said the party would decide its candidates for the upcoming elections based on their winnability, representation and other considerations, ruling out any fixed formula to drop 40 or 50 per cent of sitting MLAs.

He said the BJP was not a party run by a family or an individual and that decisions were taken after considering inputs from various organisational levels, including district heads.

“I am telling you that my party is not a party of a family, a person, or a couple. If we make any decision, then there is a community. The district head of our organisation is also important. All inputs are taken,” he said.

Rejecting speculation about a fixed percentage of sitting MLAs being dropped, Chaudhary said the party's primary objective would be to win the elections.

He said the party would consider multiple factors while deciding on candidates, including women's representation, caste equations and the prospects of winning.

“It is not like there is a formula that 40% or 50% will be deducted. The goal will be our win. The party decides based on that. So, if it is said that 40% or 20% will be deducted, there will be a discussion. All the forums will be set up,” he said.

“We will take women’s representation, caste equations, winnability and overall representation into account while making our decisions,” Chaudhary said.

Uttar Pradesh, which has 403 Assembly seats, is expected to witness a major contest between the BJP and the SP in 2027, with the Congress also looking to expand its political footprint in the state. (ANI)
