Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 16 (ANI): Chandigarh police issued a traffic advisory ahead of PM Narendra Modi's visit to Chandigarh on Friday (July 17), appealing to the general public to cooperate with the police. Commuters in the city have been advised to avoid certain road stretches on Friday afternoon, detailing temporary road restrictions and alternate routes ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.

Releasing the official guidelines on Wednesday for the VVIP movement, law enforcement officials urged residents to plan their commutes carefully and strictly follow the designated parking rules to ensure smooth transit.

Highlighting the specific areas that will face temporary disruption, the official notice stated, "Traffic will be diverted/restricted on 17.7.2026 from Chandigarh-Nayagaon barrier towards PEC Light Point upto Sector 2/3/10-11 Chowk during the movement of the VVIP. General public is requested to avoid the above stretch/road upto 3:00 PM."

Beyond the identified primary route, the authorities warned that additional restrictions may be imposed on various road stretches throughout the day as part of the security protocol.

"Traffic movement may be restricted/diverted on certain road stretches in view of the VVIP visit. In view of the above, the general public is requested to adopt alternate routes to avoid any congestion/inconvenience. Further, the general public is requested to follow the Social Media Account of Chandigarh Traffic Police for real-time updates on traffic," the traffic advisory read.

Regarding logistical arrangements, the advisory stated, "Guests, invitees and official staff are requested to park their vehicles at the designated parking lots only. General public is advised not to park/ply their vehicles on cycle track/pedestrian pathway and No Parking Area, otherwise strict action shall be taken as per law and vehicles shall be towed away."

The Chandigarh Traffic Police in the official advisory also appealed to the general public to "cooperate with the police and any inconvenience caused on account of these restrictions/diversions is deeply regretted."

Meanwhile, on July 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Haryana and Chandigarh to roll out projects worth around Rs 26,800 crore.

He will flag off India's first Hydrogen train between Jind and Sonipat at Jind railway station. During his visit to Jind, PM Modi will unveil development projects of worth around Rs 14,700 crore. He will unveil projects worth over Rs 6,600 crore in Chandigarh and worth over Rs 5,470 crore during his visit to Jalandhar.

The flagging off of India's first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat will mark an important step towards the adoption of clean and sustainable mobility in the railway sector.

The release said that the Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation as well as lay the foundation stone of National Highway projects worth over Rs 12,470 crores in Haryana.

Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the 24.27 km long Hansi-Barwala Brownfield Highway Project, which will upgrade the existing carriageway to a 2/4-lane configuration with paved shoulders.

Further strengthening road infrastructure in the State, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of National Highway projects worth over Rs 3,070 crore.

Prime Minister will inaugurate the 30.9-km-long Package-6 of the four-lane greenfield Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. The section will facilitate easier and faster travel, particularly for heavy vehicles, while reducing fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs.

Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the development of the 25.2-km-long six-lane greenfield Southern Ludhiana Bypass. The project will reduce travel distance and time between Ludhiana and Bathinda, while also improving connectivity to other major economic centres. (ANI)
