Gujarat: Woman Burnt to Death Over INR 5,000 Loan Dispute in Patan
A 35-year-old woman has died after she was allegedly set on fire by a neighbor following a dispute over a Rs 5,000 loan. The victim, identified as Pinki Patni, succumbed to her injuries at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on July 13, days after the confrontation occurred in Patan town.

A 35-year-old woman has died after she was allegedly set on fire by her neighbour during a dispute over the repayment of a INR 5,000 loan in Gujarat's Patan district. Dispute Over Loan Turned Violent
According to police, Pinki Patni, a fruit and vegetable vendor and mother of two, had borrowed INR 5,000 from her neighbour, Babu Rawal, about a month ago to meet emergency expenses. On the day of the incident, Patni reportedly went to another neighbour's house to discuss the repayment. Police said Rawal arrived there carrying a bucket containing an inflammable liquid. Following an argument, he allegedly poured the liquid on her and set her ablaze.
Victim Succumbed During Treatment
Witnesses alerted emergency services after Patni ran onto the road engulfed in flames. She was initially taken to Dharpur Civil Hospital, where police recorded her dying declaration. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for advanced treatment. She later died from her injuries on July 13. Accused Under Police Watch
Police said the accused also suffered around 40 per cent burn injuries during the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at Dharpur Civil Hospital under police surveillance.
Investigators have launched a detailed probe and are examining whether the dispute over the ₹5,000 loan was the sole motive behind the attack or if any other factors contributed to the crime. A case has been registered, and police are collecting evidence, including the victim's dying declaration and witness statements, to establish the sequence of events. Officials have indicated that further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
