Colombo [Sri Lanka], April 16 (ANI): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena performed New Year rituals at his official residence in Colombo.
As per a media report, Sirisena along with First Lady Jayanthi Sirisena on Saturday lit a hearth to mark the auspicious occasion.
They were also joined by their immediate family members.
The President, later, planted a Beli sapling at his official residence and conducted some traditional transactions at the event.
The event was attended by various parliamentarians. Further, a group of artists visited the President's residence to greet Sirisena on the New Year.
Each year the Tamil and Sinhalese community of Sri Lanka celebrate the New Year on 14th April. The event marks the harvesting of crops. (ANI)
