Kolkata, May 31 (PTI) The Trinamool Congress today surged ahead of its Left Front rival in the Maheshtala Assembly bypoll by a margin of 14394 votes after initial rounds of counting, EC sources said.
After first few rounds of counting TMC candidate, Dulal Das secured 18470 votes. The Left Front candidate Prabhat Chowdhury, who is supported by Congress, got 4076 votes,
The BJP candidate Sujit Ghosh bagged 3590 votes.
The bypoll was held following the death of Trinamool Congress MLA Kasturi Das. The TMC has fielded her husband Dulal Das.
The election was held on May 28.
