Kozhikode, May 7 (PTI) Two workers from West Bengal were injured when a mound of soil near a construction site here where they were engaged in digging work, caved in, in the second such incident of mudslide in five days. Police said Rajesh Rai (28) and Dipakar Rai (30), both hailing from Bardhaman district, were engaged in digging work at the site near the railway station when the incident occurred around 10.40 am.

However, on seeing the workers trapped, locals informed the police, who, along with Fire and Rescue Service personnel, pulled them out of the mud.

They were admitted to Kozhikode Medical College hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable, police said.

Police suspect that the mound of soil heaped near the site could have become loose due to overnight rain, resulting in the mud caving in.

Two migrant workers, natives of Bihar, were killed and six others injured when a heap of soil fell on them while they were digging a pit at a construction site near Kasaba on May 3.

Eight workers, all hailing from Bihar, were at work when the incident occurred.
