A Class 1 student was allegedly bitten by a snake inside Mitra Institution in Kolkata's Bhawanipore area on Monday morning, August 24, prompting the school to inform his family and arrange his treatment at SSKM Hospital. The child, identified as Drupto Pal, a resident of Tollygunge, is currently stable and under observation, hospital officials said.

The incident reportedly took place at around 8.30 am during the tiffin break, PTI reported. The school authorities informed the child's family and took him to the nearby state-run SSKM hospital for treatment. Student Under Observation At SSKM

"The boy is currently under treatment and his condition is stable," a senior hospital official said. "He has been kept under observation. Tests were conducted and further treatment will depend on his clinical condition and the reports," he said.

The nature of the snake and whether the bite was venomous had not been established in the reports available on Monday. Local reports said the child was admitted to SSKM after the alleged incident. 3-Year-Old Boy Dies After Venomous Snake Bite in Chandauli, CCTV Video Surfaces.

Forest Department Asked To Inspect School

Following the incident, school authorities informed the Forest Department and sought assistance to inspect the premises. The move is aimed at determining whether a snake was present within the school grounds and whether any further safety measures are required. Mitra Institution's Bhawanipore branch is a government-affiliated school located on Balaram Bose Ghat Road in Kolkata.

Incident Comes Days After Another Kolkata School Case

The incident comes days after a Class 3 student was allegedly bitten by a snake inside the premises of a prominent private school in Kolkata. The two incidents have raised fresh concerns over the presence of snakes in school premises and the safety of students, particularly during the monsoon season. In the latest case, however, the child is reported to be stable and receiving treatment at SSKM Hospital.

Details about how the alleged snake bite occurred and whether a snake was subsequently found on the school premises remain unclear. Authorities are expected to assess the premises following the request for a Forest Department inspection. Further medical updates will depend on the child's condition and test reports.
