Mumbai, March 31: Mercedes-Benz India has officially confirmed that its highly anticipated electric sedan, the CLA EV, will be launched in the country on April 24, 2026. The move marks the return of the CLA nameplate to the Indian market, this time as a fully electric four-door coupe. Bookings for the new model are already underway with a token amount of INR 1.50 lakh, and early customers are expected to receive a complimentary wall-box charger as part of the launch offer.
The CLA EV is a critical addition to the German automaker’s luxury electric portfolio, effectively consolidating several entry-level offerings. Positioned as an alternative to the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6, the sedan is built on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA). This platform is designed to prioritise electrification while maintaining the sporty silhouette and premium driving dynamics associated with the brand. Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Range and Powertrain Options
The standout feature of the India-spec CLA EV is its range, with the long-range variant claiming a WLTP-certified figure of 792 km. This puts it among the longest-range luxury EVs currently available in India. Mercedes-Benz will offer the sedan in two distinct trims: the CLA 200 ‘Standard Range’ and the CLA 250+ ‘Long Range’. The latter is powered by an 85.5 kWh battery pack paired with a rear-wheel-drive motor that produces 268 bhp and 335 Nm of peak torque.
For those prioritising daily city commutes, the CLA 200 Standard Range features a 58 kWh battery delivering a claimed range of 542 km. Performance remain impressive across the board, with the CLA 250+ capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in approximately 6.7 seconds. The 800V electrical architecture also ensures ultra-fast charging; a 240 kW DC fast charger can reportedly add up to 400 km of range in just 20 minutes for the long-range model.
Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Design and Digital-First Cabin
Visually, the CLA EV retains its signature coupe-like roofline while adopting a more aerodynamic, "EQ" inspired design language. Key exterior elements include a gloss black blanked-off grille adorned with illuminated star patterns, connected LED light bars at both the front and rear, and 18-inch AMG alloy wheels. The inclusion of a 101-litre "frunk" (front trunk) and flush door handles further emphasises the car's focus on modern practicality and efficiency.
Inside, the cabin is dominated by a 14-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. The infotainment system runs on the new MB.OS platform, which integrates AI-driven assistance powered by ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Standard features include a fixed panoramic glass roof, heated front seats with memory functions, and dual-zone automatic climate control, although ventilated seats remain absent from the initial Indian spec.
Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Safety
Safety is a primary focus for the new CLA EV, which has already secured a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP 2025 crash tests. The vehicle comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including six airbags, a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package. These features are intended to provide a secure driving environment that aligns with the expectations of the luxury segment. 2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Specifications and Features; Everything To Expect Ahead of April Launch.
In terms of pricing, the CLA 200 Standard Range is expected to start at approximately INR 55 lakh, while the CLA 250+ Long Range could be priced closer to INR 60 lakh (ex-showroom). By replacing multiple legacy models with this single high-tech EV, Mercedes-Benz India aims to streamline its portfolio and appeal to a younger, tech-savvy demographic looking for a premium entry point into the world of electric mobility.
